Mattinson worked across multiple divisions during his movie-making career at Disney.
He also co-directed, co-wrote, and co-produced 1986’sThe Great Mouse Detective.
Mattinson was still working as a story consultant and mentor at Disney at the time of his passing.

It was previously held by Disney artist and Imagineer John Hench, who worked for nearly 65 years.

“What are they feeling at this moment?
You’re trying to get inside of the character’s mind.
That’s the main thing.
It’s about characters.
But the biggest thing is having fun.
