This action has brought McFarland some fierce criticism online.

“I wanted a piece of Peter to be here tonight.

Sad to say, so many artifacts and photographs have not been preserved, curated, or respected.

I took it upon myself to curate and build a collection for future generations.

It’s something I want to give back.”

McFarland has since been called out for several reasons.

Peter is the character’s name inEmancipation.

Then there’s the question of money.

She also wondered about the photo’s place in a private collection to begin with.

“I just don’t understand,” Reign wrote.

Other Twitter users wondered why McFarland was insisting on not selling the collection until his death.

Representatives for McFarland did not respond to EW’s request for comment.

Emancipationis currently playing in select theaters and will be available to stream on Apple+ on Dec. 9.
