Former CNN anchor Rick Sanchez says he inspiredRick and Morty's titular mad scientist

“It’s kind of like my name was hijacked,” Sanchez said on his podcast.

What do a fired CNN anchor and a hard-drinking, dimension-hopping cartoon scientist have in common?

Quite a bit, if you believe formerRick’s Listhost Rick Sanchez.

“But it’s also really frustrating.

Because it’s kind of like my name was hijacked, right?”

To further his case, Sanchez presented a home video fromRick and Mortyco-creatorJustin Roilandthat was filmed around 2006.

(ForRick and Mortyfans, the sketch is reminiscent of the show’s Interdimensional Cable gag.)

“Either that, or it’s one of the biggest coincidences that could have ever of happened.”

It’s not exactly an airtight case, though.

For one thing,Rick’s Listpremiered in January 2010 and was canceled that October.
