Martinoffered an optimistic update on his progress with the next book in hisA Song of Ice and Fireseries.
“I am making progress withThe Winds of Winter, but it’s still not done yet.
I think it’s going to be a very big book,” Martin said.

“I think I’m about three-quarters of the way done.
The characters all interweave.
So I have to finish all that weaving.
Still gonna take me awhile.”
But progress has not necessarily been consistent.
Last year, Martinwrote on his blogthat his productivity had greatly increased while isolated at home during theCOVID-19pandemic.
So maybe he’ll stay on a roll and finish the book sooner than Colbert predicts.
Martin knows the pressure won’t let up.
“I do know one thing for certain,” Martin said.
