Why Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is the one that you want to watch.

The idea of aGreaseprequel gives us chills, they’re multiplying.

But just because it’s a prequel doesn’t mean they’ll forget what came before.

“Fans of the original should be happy,” says Oakes.

Oakes, who was most recently a writer onMinx, grew up a huge fan ofGreaseandGrease 2.

“The originalGreaseis absolutely perfect.

Because everything was tied up really nicely with Danny and Sandy.

But I was like, ‘What was up with the Pink Ladies?

Were those were girl gangs real?’

Instead, we meet a new group of ladies, led by Jane (Marisa Davila).

Though, the legacy of the original wasn’t lost on the cast.

“It’s a really big responsibility bringing something this iconic back,” says Davila.

“She is just passionate about fairness and wanting to be everybody’s friend,” adds Davila.

She wants to do what’s right.

She leads with her heart.

At its heart,Greaseis a story that can fit into any era.

It’s about teenagers navigating social issues, relationships, and the difficult transition into adulthood.

That’s a very ’70s story.

“It’s really interesting to go down both of those paths at once.”

“I started calling every woman I know who went to school in the ’50s,” she says.

We talked to a lot of women who grew up in the 1950s and were actually there.

What is the Tough Girl and why is she so tough?

We get to go even deeper with our characters because we have more time with them.”

And how would music feature in the storytelling?

Ultimately, they went with something that felt like a forerunner to the jackets in the 1978 film.

In fact, Tranter is such a successful songwriter that Oakes was skeptical the production could lock them down.

That’s a really cool new process for them."

“There’s absolutely no way you could get tired of them.

It’s a no-skip soundtrack.

“It’s R&B with an amp.

We want those in the show.”
